Covered Walkways

  1. This campus is absolutely beautiful. The layout is also hard to find your way around, but it is worth it, because of the serene effect. Also, almost all main walkways are covered so that rain or the ever-present intense sun don't et in he way of getting to class! All the new teachers, most of whom this is not their first overseas placement are pinching themselves about this opportunity to work here. Am I really here? Every best practice you can dream of has been or is being implemented here. The classroom is full of relevant technology as well. Smartboard anyone? One to one laptops? TV in the classroom? I have it all and in January I'll be moving to a newer classroom. The best part for me is the collaboration that will be possible with the other nine 6th grade teachers. There needs to be uniformity for students in all the grade level classrooms. The best teachers in using technology and best practices are the standard for all others. All the 300 teachers arrive today. Got to go! I walk to campus from my apartment. It is 10 minutes of a garden like experience with lots of security gates to pass through. The guards all know us and wave us through with a welcoming smile. Indonesians are some of the friendliest people i have ever met.

  2. What a beautiful campus. Do the teachers eat indoors or where, when they break for lunch? What about the students?

  3. What beautiful pictures. I wonder what the success rates are with the students. Should the states model this same type of treatment of teachers? Would it make a difference in student achievement.
I know what Power School is. We use that. what is PLC. Do you use GLE'sand Standards. What kind of curriculum are you using for Science? DO you have a program?
I am so excited for you. It sounds like you have found a very supportive community. Have you connected with church?

  4. Hi Diane,
The students mostly go to college after. It is a private school with a range of student ability. I have a learning support teacher that works with me each day meeting needs of about 5 students. They also meet with her once a day.

PLC is a professional learning community. Lots of cooperation of teams to meet student learning goals.

We have standards, benchmarks, critical learning goals and _____by design. Everything has to be connected as far as assessments and instruction. All the homework and formative assessments do not count on the report card as kids are just learning. So I have two summative assessments a term to put on the report card.

We have a tiered math program. The grade level group uses McDougall Little Middle School Math and the upper two levels are using compilations of problems that are more challenging by teachers. The science curriculum next year will follow an Australian curriculum.
